Bonduel 4 Hofa Park 0

The best week in baseball just got sweeter as the Bonduel Broncos exploded with a two run long ball by Eric Gruenewald in the fifth to snap a scoreless game and lead the Broncos to their first Bonduel Broncos Tournament win in 2009, 4-0.

The Broncos missed a golden opportunity to strike first when they had two men on third and second with nobody out in the top of the first but failed to score. It didn't matter as the Broncos held the Hofa Park Panthers scoreless for the next six innings.

The fireworks started in the fifth inning with two outs. Greg Henn singled which brought up Eric Gruenewald. With the count at two balls and zero strikes, Eric sent a pitch to the deepest part of the park. The crowd roared as the only play the center fielder could make was to watch it sail into the corn field outside of Jack Reinke Field. From there, Eric struck out two of the eight remaining batters he faced. The defense helped him out by making plays allowing no Panther to reach past second base. Matt Scheelk and Jason Wesenberg secured the win by each scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Eric's final line shows he pitched seven complete innings improving his record to three wins against two losses. He struck out nine, while only giving up two walks and four hits.

Leading the way in hitting was Eric Gruenewald who went 2-3, with a double and a homer. Jason Wesenberg also went 2-3 with a double. Matt Scheelk and Greg Henn contributed a hit a piece in the win.

The win advances Bonduel to the Tournament semi-finals where the will play Pulaski at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday at the park.

More fans are needed! Come out to the park and cheer your Broncos to victory!
